Yesterday was another significant VALORANT tournament victory for the Sentinels after a protracted wait. However, their triumph also set a new standard for the VALORANT esports scene in terms of viewership.
The final match of VCT Masters Madrid 2024 between Sentinels and Gen.G was the most-watched VALORANT game ever, with 1.665 million viewers tuning in at its peak, according to Esports Charts. Earlier during the match, the Sentinels vs. Gen.G game had already broken the record for the most-watched Masters event, but even more viewers joined as the series went to a fifth map, ultimately surpassing the peak viewership of the Champions 2022 final between OpTic and LOUD.

The Sentinels team had only one match reach over one million viewers before the start of the Masters Madrid tournament. This peak viewership came when they last won an international VCT trophy, their victory over Fnatic at Masters Reykjavík 2021. That match peaked at 1.085 million viewers, the highest peak for a VALORANT event at the time.
The VALORANT and Sentinels brands have continued to gain popularity in recent years. At the Masters Madrid event, Sentinels had three matches that drew over one million viewers, including their record-breaking grand final against Gen.G. Sentinels can also claim the channel with the highest peak viewership during the final, as Tarik’s stream reached over 290,000 concurrent viewers.
The grand final’s record is even more remarkable when you consider that it was also competing directly with the final day of the Elimination Stage of the first CS2 Major at PGL Copenhagen, where prominent CS2 teams like G2 and NAVI were playing. Despite this competition, the grand final still managed to attract a significant audience, demonstrating its impressive popularity and appeal.
The success at the Masters Madrid tournament sets the stage for an even more exciting 2024 VCT season for VALORANT. If popular teams like Sentinels, LOUD, Karmine Corp, Paper Rex, and others manage to reach the year’s biggest event, Champions 2024, it could be a record-breaking year for the game. Fans of these teams are eagerly anticipating the upcoming season and the opportunity to see their favorite players compete at the highest level.
