Hades, the Head of Esports for Orangutan recently took to Instagram and shared a story, writing that the Orangutan BGMI team will not participate in upcoming BGMI events unless the prize pool exceeds INR 5 Lakhs.
One of the most well-known esports organizations in India is Orangutan Gaming. The organization is one of the few that has witnessed teams compete in several PC and mobile esports games with success. Thus far in the 2024 Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) season, its squad has experienced considerable success.
Orangutan’s Head of Esports, Vinay “Hades” Rao, has made it clear that the organization is not going to take part in any BGMI events unless the prize fund is more than INR 5 Lakhs.
Orangutans, according to Hades, won’t take part in BGMI competitions unless the reward fund is more than INR 5 lakhs

Hades stated, “Starting from 1st March the Orangutan BGMI team won’t be participating in any tournament with prize pool less than 5 Lakhs, unless it’s a qualifier for a major tournament,” in reference to Orangutans’ involvement in future BGMI tournaments. In order to have a strong esports ecosystem going forward, it is imperative that we make some internal agreements within the teams. We are sick and tired of tournament organizers (TOs) withholding point of view (POV) streaming and forcing players to work long hours for meager prize pools.

Hades claims that the prize pool for the tournament is insufficient given the amount of days and matches scheduled for the event. The daily hardship and effort put in by the teams and players is not worth the rewards the organization anticipates, and the players’ physical and mental health may suffer as a result of participating in so many events.
There have been a lot more BGMI competitions after the game was unbanned in May 2023. In the first month following BGMI’s unban, more than six events were planned. There had been dozens of significant and small BGMI occurrences by the end of the 2023 season. Ten or more events have already been played in the first two months of the 2024 season, while official and unofficial LAN events are also scheduled for the upcoming months.
It wouldn’t be shocking if other seasoned teams took the same approach to offer their players the much-needed relaxation in between significant official and third-party LAN tournaments, since there are so many BGMI events played every day, the majority of which are played in an offline LAN format.
