In 1980s Indiana, a group of young friends witness supernatural forces and secret government exploits. As they search for answers, the kids uncover a series of extraordinary mysteries. Steve Perry, former lead singer of Journey, has said that the Stranger Things season 4 remix of Journey’s 1980s smash hit “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” was made around the same time. as he originally intended it to be in the 1980s, but without the technology. Perry was so impressed that he even helped develop the remix.

Someone is talking on a two-way radio or CB – that is, one person is talking/transmitting, and another person transmits to interrupt, and then the other person hears the interruption and stops transmitting. This has been done many times on kids’ CB radios and on radios used by the police. These radios – the CB and the police radios from the era of the show – don’t work like that. Of course it does: because “Stranger Things” is a good idea
There were two dominant forces in the 80s that had a lasting effect on my taste in movies and also led to my lifelong love of fantasy, sci-fi, and horror stories: Steven Spielberg and Stephen King. I guess it’s not an exaggeration to say “The Two Steves.” probably influenced and shaped the imaginations – the dreams AND the nightmares – of an entire generation. The main reason I liked their movies and books was that kids around my age were prominently featured in many of them. King wrote “Firestarter,” “It,” and “Stand By Me,” and Spielberg directed or produced (through his company Amblin) “E.T.,” “The Goonies,” “Stand By Me,” and “Gremlins.” These were stories in which the young protagonists encountered aliens and monsters or had supernatural powers themselves — or simply went on an adventure (to find a body or long-lost treasure) with largely outcast adults. Now, if you’ve seen “Stranger Things,” this should sound pretty familiar, right?
And it’s not a rip-off, it’s a love letter
deliberately pays homage to all of these stories — and it does it very, very well. The show mimics the themes and a certain style of these 80s treasures, and while it’s a (for me) very welcome throwback to some of my favorite stories from my youth, it’s also its own thing. I won’t give away the plot here (I’m assuming you have a pretty good idea of what it’s about from what I wrote above), but I will mention that it’s beautifully shot, the effects and generally the production values are top-notch, and the period-inspired music is fantastic. The biggest shout-out, though, has to go to the entire cast, especially the kids who play the leads: their charming performances are key to why the show works so well. If you’re an 80s kid like me, this show is a must-see.
is a treat
For everyone else, it might depend a little more on whether you’re a fan of the genre or not, but if you’re into supernatural stories, “Stranger Things” is a good one. I’d give it eight stars out of ten, but with an extra star for nostalgia, it’s a 9.
